In the general budget 2023-24, a provision of Rs 3500 crore has been made for Madhya Pradesh for the Ken-Betwa link project. This project, which has been running on paper for 18 years, is ready to be started before the assembly elections. For this, formalities for the transfer of 5,480 hectares of non-forest government land of Panna-Chhatarpur have been completed. The state government has already given permission to bring Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary under Project Tiger.
Ministry sources said that a total of Rs 46 thousand crore would be spent on the Ken-Betwa link project. Out of this, the central government has given Rs 1,100 crore in the current financial year. The Bundelkhand region will benefit the most from the project. In which 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh come. These include 9 districts of Madhya Pradesh namely Panna, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Datia, Vidisha, Shivpuri and Raisen. Whereas, there are Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi and Lalitpur districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The Central Government had made a National Perspective Plan to link the rivers. The Ken-Betwa link project is the first project in the plan. The water of Ken River will be transferred to Betwa river. A 221 km long Ken-Betwa link canal will be built to connect the two rivers.

Last month on January 18, the third meeting of the Steering Committee of the Ken-Betwa Link Project was held in Delhi under the chairmanship of Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. During this, the State Governments had given permission to bring Nauradehi Wildlife Sanctuary of Madhya Pradesh and Rani Durgavati Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttar Pradesh under Project Tiger.
According to the information, the proposal for the formation of Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee was finalized during the meeting to oversee the transparent and timely completion of the rehabilitation and resettlement plan. A Greater Panna Land Management Council is also being constituted for the implementation of the Land Management Plan (LMP) and Environment Management Plan (EMP) of the project.
8500 crores will be given special capital assistance
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also made a big announcement for the state governments. Under this, the central government extended the 50-year interest-free loan to the states for one more year. The Shivraj government is now sending a proposal to give Rs 8500 crore from the Special Capital Assistance Fund under this scheme. This amount is given for employment-oriented construction works.
Finance Department officials say that to give a boost to the economy after Corona, the Central Government had started a special capital assistance scheme. Madhya Pradesh received Rs 1,320 crore in 2020-21 and Rs 6,280 crore has been approved in 2022-23. In the current financial year, it was revised to 7500 crores. Out of this, Rs 3,140 crore has been received.
Nursing colleges will open in 7 medical colleges
Madhya Pradesh has got 7 Nursing Colleges in the Union Budget. The finance minister announced setting up of 157 new Nursing Colleges in collocation with the existing 157 Medical Colleges established since 2014. Seven medical colleges have opened in the state after this period. These include Khandwa, Datia, Vidisha, Shahdol, Ratlam, Chhindwara and Shivpuri. With the opening of the Nursing College, B.Sc Nursing and M.Sc Nursing subjects will be started here
