After 58 years in the UP Assembly, a court was held on Friday. 6 policemen appeared in the dock. All these policemen guilty of breach of privilege and contempt of the House were sentenced to one day by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The sentence will be till 12 midnight on March 3.

During this, all the policemen will be kept in the lockup of the cell built in the assembly. After the sentence was decided, the marshals took all the policemen from the house to the lockup. Earlier in 1964 the court was set up in the Vidhansabha.

During the court held in the House on Friday, Satish Mahana asked the leaders of all the parties for their stand on this. Most authorized the president to make decisions. Then the guilty policemen were given a chance to speak in their defence.

In this, the then CO Abdul Samad apologized to the House. Said that such a mistake will not happen again. Earlier, when Akhilesh was asked about this outside the House, he only said – this is a wrong tradition.

Lathicharge happened in Kanpur in 2004

This case of breach of privilege and contempt of the House dates back to 2004. Then there was the SP government, and Mulayam Singh was the Chief Minister. Satish Mahana (who is now the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly) was sitting on a protest against the power cut in Kanpur. He was accompanied by the then-local BJP MLA Salil Vishnoi and activists.

During the protest, the police lathi-charged the BJP MLA and workers. Salil Vishnoi's leg was broken in this. Many BJP workers got hurt. After this, a notice of breach of privilege and contempt of the House was placed in the assembly session on 25 October 2004.

7 months trial, convicted 17 years ago

According to information received from the Vidhan Sabha, hearings were held against all these 6 policemen from the year 2004 to May 2005 in the case of breach of privilege and contempt of the House. All the policemen were convicted 17 years ago after the trial process was over. But since 2005, the punishment had not been announced yet.
