New Delhi: One more person was arrested in Tamil Nadu on Friday in connection with a case related to the conspiracy of the banned organization Popular Front of India. A spokesperson of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) gave this information. Umar Sheriff R alias 'Umar Juice', a resident of Nelpettai in Madurai, is the 10th accused arrested in the case. The case was registered at the NIA police station here on September 19, an official said.

The spokesman said that he was arrested for conspiring and indulging in unlawful activities like promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, besides carrying out activities prejudicial to communal harmony. He said that his intention was to create disaffection towards India by disrupting social peace and harmony.

The NIA said investigations have revealed that Sheriff R (43) had conducted several physical training courses and demonstrations involving lethal weapons for the cadre of the banned organization PFI in Madurai.

The spokesperson said the cadres thus trained were used to attack targets selected by PFI leaders at the district and state levels.
