Punjab is on high alert after Khalistani Chief Amritpal Singh was declared a fugitive

.

Amritpal Singh, who sources claim was last observed riding away at high speeds on a motorcycle, has been the target of a huge operation.

Amritpal Singh, a Khalistani commander who is evading capture by the Punjab Police, has been labelled a fugitive, according to authorities in New Delhi and Amritsar.

Amritpal Singh, who was last reportedly seen speeding away on a motorcycle Friday evening in Jalandhar, has been the target of a huge effort.

Police have arrested 78 members of his organisation 'Waris Punjab De,' while several others have been detained for interrogation, sources added.

Police have detained six to seven of Amritpal Singh's assailants, according to Jalandhar Police Commissioner Kuldeep Singh Chahal.

Daljeet Singh Kalsi, a close associate of Amritpal Singh who manages the Khalistani leader's finances, has also been detained in Gurgaon, Haryana.

On his trip to Jalandhar's Shahkot tehsil yesterday, the Khalistani leader's convoy was escorted by a special state police team made up of officers from seven districts.

Yet, the radical Sikh preacher was able to ride away from their dragnet.

Following the posting of certain videos on social media by his aides in which they claimed that police were pursuing them and urging his fans to assemble at Shahkot, authorities increased security at many locations and blocked internet and SMS services in the state.

Amritsar has also put in place extensive security measures outside of Amritpal Singh's village, Jallupur Khaira. His father is being questioned by police, who have detained him.

Deep Sidhu, an activist and performer, founded "Waris Punjab De," which is run by Amritpal Singh. Deep Sidhu passed away in a car accident in February of last year.
