Seven people died due to the devastation caused by Cyclone Remal in Bangladesh. Deaths have been reported from five coastal districts in the south and southeast of the country. Two people are also reported missing due to the severe cyclone.

Mohammad Shamim Ahsan, deputy director of the cyclone warning center at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), said that after the storm made landfall at 8 pm last night, strong winds and storm surge hit the coasts of southern Bangladesh and West Bengal of India. The cyclone damaged crops in about a dozen coastal districts.

Eight lakh people from the 10 most sensitive districts have already been evacuated to safe places. There is widespread flood impact in Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Patuakhali and other coastal districts. Due to strong winds in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, electric poles were uprooted and wires broke and fell. Due to this the power supply came to a standstill.

Due to the cyclone, 1.5 crore people remained deprived of electricity. Bangladesh's Minister of State for Disaster Management and Relief Mohammad Mohibur Rahman said adequate measures have been taken to assist the affected people.
