New Delhi: The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Congress leader Ajay Rai on Tuesday for making 'anti-women' and 'derogatory' remarks against Union Minister Smriti Irani. Congress' Uttar Pradesh unit leader Ajay Rai had said on Monday that Smriti Irani comes to her constituency Amethi only to show 'latka-jhatka'. After this, the BJP reacted sharply to this statement.

The NCW said, "The National Commission for Women has come to the notice of several media reports relating to a controversial remark made by Congress leader Ajay Rai against Union Minister Smriti Irani. The commission has taken cognizance of Rai's anti-feminist remarks. The remarks are hateful and is highly derogatory and the commission strongly condemns such statements."

"The commission has fixed a hearing in the matter and a notice has been sent to Rai to appear on December 28 at 12 noon," the statement said.

Asked whether Gandhi would contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi, Rai had told reporters, "It has been the seat of the Gandhi family. Rahul Gandhi has been a Lok Sabha member there. Rajiv Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi have also been MPs from here." And he has served the region."

Rai had said, 'Most of the factories in Amethi are on the verge of closure. Half of the factories in the Jagdishpur industrial area are lying closed. Smriti Irani comes, shows 'Latka Jhatka' and leaves."

At present, Amethi is represented in the Lok Sabha by the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Irani. Reacting to the statement, Irani said that Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi needed a new screenwriter.

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development had said, "You and Mummy ji need a new speechwriter for your anti-women goons."
