IIT Madras is the number one University in NIRF Ranking, IISc is Second, and Lucknows BBAU is on the 78th position.

National Institutional Ranking Framework 2022 prepared by the Ministry of Education is released. Indian Institute of Technology secured the first position with an overall score of 87.59 points and the Indian Institute of Science, Karnataka with an overall score of 83.57 out of a hundred points, is number two.

Lucknow's Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University has secured 78 positions in the overall ranking. The ranking is given on five basic points:

1) Teaching, Learning, and Resources :

Student Strength including Doctoral Students (SS)

Faculty-student ratio with emphasis on permanent faculty (FSR)

Combined metric for Faculty with PhD (or equivalent) and Experience (FQE)

Financial Resources and their Utilisation (FRU)

2) Research and Professional Practice:

Combined metric for Publications (PU)

Combined metric for Quality of Publications (QP)

IPR and Patents: Published and Granted (IPR)

The footprint of Projects and Professional Practice (FPPP)

3) Graduation Outcome :

Metric for University Examinations (GUE)

Metric for Number of Ph.D. Students Graduated (GPHD)

4) Outreach and Inclusivity and :

Percentage of Students from Other States/Countries (Region Diversity RD)

Percentage of Women (Women Diversity WD)

Economically and Socially Challenged Students (ESCS)

Facilities for Physically Challenged Students (PCS)

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by the Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015.

The methodology draws from the overall recommendations and broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover "Teaching, Learning and Resources," "Research and Professional Practices," "Graduation Outcomes," "Outreach and Inclusivity," and "Perception".

India Rankings – 2016 based on this framework were released on 4th April 2016.
