Pittsburgh, February 10. Reigning national champion Velavan Senthilkumar lost 11-2, 11-4, 11-8 to world No. 21 Youssef Ibrahim of Egypt in the quarterfinals of the Pittsburgh Open squash in Pittsburgh (US) on Friday.
It was India's first PSA World Tour Silver quarterfinal since Breakout 2023, as the world number 63 Tamil Nadu player won four PSA titles in his first full year as a professional.
Velavan made the quarters after a second round upset by eighth seed Faraz Khan, and looked strong in the second and third games against fourth seed Ibrahim.
However, the experienced Egyptians were always one step ahead, and the official PSA Squash website was quoted as saying. Velavan is a very good player. We have played many times and he has always given me a tough challenge on the court... I am happy that I kept it up and performed well.
