The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has resumed its investigation into the corruption case against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. The case in which the CBI has started an investigation against Lalu is said to be related to corruption in the railway project. In 2018, the CBI started probing allegations of corruption in the allocation of railway projects. In May 2021, the investigation against former Bihar CM Lalu Yadav was closed.
Besides Lalu Yadav, his son and Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav, and daughters Chanda Yadav and Ragini Yadav are among the accused in the case. The decision to re-investigate the case against Lalu Yadav came then. Recently, when Nitish Kumar broke ties with BJP and formed the government in Bihar with RJD. On separating from BJP, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had then alleged that BJP was planning to break his party.
The latest move by the CBI is expected to spark a massive political controversy as the opposition BJP-led central government has been facing allegations of misuse of investigative agencies. It is alleged in the case that Lalu Yadav received a south Delhi property as a kickback from real estate major DLF Group, which was interested in rail land lease projects in Mumbai's Bandra and the revival of the New Delhi Railway Station.
