In a sharp turn of events, Delhi woke up to a foggy morning on Friday, recording a significant drop in temperature.
The India Meteorological Department reported that the temperature dipped to 6.4 degrees Celsius, a notable decline from the seasonal average. The biting cold has led authorities to issue advisories, urging residents, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with health conditions, to take necessary precautions.
North India is currently under the grip of a severe cold wave accompanied by dense fog, which has caused significant disruptions in both rail and air services. Visibility has been reduced to zero at several airports, including those in Palam, Amritsar, Agra, Patiala, Chandigarh, Ambala, and Gwalior, resulting in numerous flight delays.
In addition, Northern Railway services have been affected by the fog, with around 26 trains experiencing delays. These ongoing weather conditions are causing widespread travel challenges across the region.
The cold wave, which has been intensifying since Wednesday, has also led to a drop in night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley, with mercury levels in parts of Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh nearing the freezing point.
