Severe cold wave conditions persist across large parts of North India, including Delhi, with dense fog and mist worsening daily challenges.
The national capital woke up to dense fog and biting cold on Friday morning, as plunging temperatures and low visibility disrupted normal routines. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings ranging from cold wave to severe cold wave conditions across several northern and eastern states.
On January 15, Delhi registered its coldest day of the season at 2.9 degrees Celsius.
Predicting continued cold wave conditions in neighbouring states, the IMD stated that cold wave conditions will persist in parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on January 16 and 17, and in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand on January 16.
In Uttar Pradesh, the cold has intensified after brief sunny relief, with rain expected on January 19–20, likely worsening the chill.
As per the IMD, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are expected between January 16 and 21 in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
