PhD opportunity at Glasgow Caledonian University Investigating the Blythe Duff Archive
The Department of Media and Journalism at Glasgow Caledonian University
(GCU) is looking for a PhD candidate to undertake original research
within the Blythe Duff Archive - the script and memorabilia archive of
actress Blythe Duff who is most famous for her role as DS Jackie Reid in
the long-running STV detective series Taggart between 1990 - 2010. This
extensive archive was kindly donated by Ms. Duff to GCU in 2018.
This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to do original,
ground-breaking research work within a hitherto uninvestigated Scottish
creative practitioner archive. Possible themes for investigation include
the contribution of the Duff archive to our understanding of the history
of TV drama production and scriptwriting in Scotland; the crime and
tartan noir genres; the wider history of Scottish television and theatre
acting during the period, especially from the perspective of a female
actress breaking into a male-dominated industry; television and theatre
memorabilia.
This is a funded studentship and as a PhD candidate you will be part of
a vibrant team within the Media and Culture Research Group, a growing
research community with interests across media and journalism. Our
research profile can be viewed at:
https://www.gcu.ac.uk/gsbs/aboutus/departments/mediajournalism/
Archival research training and experience of archival research
essential. Experience of interviewing and of undertaking and collating
oral histories also desirable.
