A four-week (24 days) full-time course in SUMMER FILM APPRECIATION COURSE 2022 will be held online from 13th JUNE to 14th JULY 2022 (excluding Saturdays & Sundays). This is an intensive course designed to promote comprehensive understanding and insights into the nature of cinema and other related forms and practices. The contours of the Course will broadly be as under: -

Travel back in time to meet the pioneers who invented cinema.

Study the evolution of cinema and development of film language.

Identify the wide spectrum of forms comprising screen arts.

Analyze timeless classics and modern masterpieces.

Learn about cinema's different disciplines and reflect if you have a flair for any.

Examine the power of the medium and its relationship with the society.

Investigate the issues facing screen arts, and form your own opinion.

Explore contemporary cinema – of India and world.

Meet some of the best known film professionals and enrich from their knowledge.

*Applicants may please note this is not a film production or a scriptwriting course. The emphasis is completely on understanding and appreciation, and there are no practice-based inputs included in the syllabus. *

*Since the course is based on Audio – Visual medium where films will be screened, the respective visual & hearing disability of a differently abled person should not be more than 60%. *

About Course Director

FTII alumnus with Diploma in Film Direction.

Written, edited and directed a vast number of documentaries, short fiction films and television programs.

Held triple charges of Professor of Screen Studies, Academic co-ordinator and Controller of Examination at FTII, Pune.

Taught Film Appreciation at over 20 cities across India under the aegis of FTII's SKIFT initiative.

Worked in top management positions in prestigious media organizations such as Vice President of Discovery Channel South Asia and Head of Programming BBC Worldwide.

Global traveller, published writer, cinema academic and lifelong student of screen arts.

3. Course timing is 11am to 01 pm & 5 pm to 07 pm (04 hours every day).

Apart from that online Screening may be held in between 02 pm to 05 pm as per the course requirement.

4. Application fee of Rs.800/- (Rupees Eight Hundred only) for Indian Citizens and Rs 2400/- (Rupees Two Thousand Four Hundred only) for Others (Including Indian Nationals staying outside India) should be transferred online on FTII Account through SBI Payment Portal at

https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/icollecthome.html.

Application fee is non-refundable.

5. The Course fees will be Rs. 12,000/- (including 18% GST) for Indian Citizens and Rs. 36,000/- for Others (Including Indian Nationals staying outside India). Fees should be transferred online on FTII Account through SBI Payment Portal https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm Only for those who will be Shortlisted after scrutinizing the application form by course

Director. Course fees does not include accommodation, food etc. Course fees is non-refundable, non-transferable, non-ajustable etc. under any circumstances.

Terms & Conditions:

1. The applicant should have completed 18 years (Participant born on or before 1st May 2004)

2. Education criteria for the participant: 10+2 level completed (Minimum 12th standard passed. In the exceptional case, 10th pass may be considered.

3. Total number of Participants for course is 70. Course may not be conducted if there are less than 56 participants. In such case Application fee will not be refund under any circumstances.

4. Selection Criteria: On the basis of information stated in the Google form. List of shortlisted candidates will be published on FTII websites. Emails will be sent to the shortlisted participants.

5. Online platform: Google Classroom or similar application used as online platform for the course. Participants are requested to get familiarized with the same. Steps to join online class including login id & password will be shared with each selected participant in the selection email.

6. Computer literacy: It is the participant's responsibility to be technologically capable to take an online course. Participant must be computer literate.

7. Last date of submission of application form & Application fees is 16th May 2022, 06 pm.

8. Mr. PANKAJ SAXENA will conduct the course as a Course Director (Main Faculty) with the help of other guest speakers & guest Film makers.

9. On successful completion of the course, participants would be given digital participation Certificates subject to 90% attendance.

10. Use of Mobile Phone (in place of Laptop or Desktop Computer) to attend the classes is strictly prohibited. Such participants will not be allowed to join the classes.

11. By agreeing to the terms & conditions in the application form AND OR by paying course fee, participants are confirming that they have read & understood the website advt. They are eligible to apply and fulfill all the requirements as stated in the advt. Further, participants agree that decision of FTII Director regarding admission to the course and it conduction will be final. Further to add in this, it is expected of the participants that during the class they must mute their microphone but keep their cameras on unless otherwise instructed. Keeping camera off throughout the class or not heeding to instructions to switch on the camera will be seen as an act of indiscipline and will lead to expulsion from the Course and forfeiture of the Course fee. Decision of FTII Director regarding conducting the course in all respects will be final.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENT: Since the course is online, participants must have following facilities: -

A Desktop / Laptop having minimum 4 GB RAM, 1.6 GHz or better processor (Intel i3 or i5 or better). (Windows / MAC)

(Operating system: a) Windows 7 or 8 or 10. b) MAC OS Sierra or later

Audio – Video software: Latest versions of VLC player, Windows Media Player or Quick Time Player.

Compatible good quality headphones/ earphones with microphone.

Compatible HD webcam.

Internet pack of minimum 6 GB per day exclusively for this course. It is recommended to have fixed wired Internet connection with minimum speed of 10 Mbps or more.

5. Fill up the payment form with requisite details and proceed for payment.

6. Once payment is done, please note "SBI collect Reference Number" (mentioned in payment confirmation receipt).

7. Digitally store the receipt of payment. This can be carried out in one of the following ways;

(i) by taking printout of receipt of payment, scan & save it

(ii) by taking screenshot of payment (if using mobile) or print screen (if using computer)

(iii) by simply taking a photograph from mobile

A: No. This is not a film-making course but different components of film making will be taught through film clips and lectures.

A: The names of the selected participants will be published on the FTII website. The participants will also be communicated by email.

10. How the course will be conducted?

A: Course will be conducted online through Google Classroom.
