India’s largest paramilitary force — the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) — marks its 87th Raising Day on Sunday. From counter-insurgency operations to election security and VIP protection, the CRPF remains the nation’s formidable backbone in ensuring internal peace and order.
With six all-women battalions — a first among India’s paramilitary ranks — the CRPF continues to set benchmarks in inclusive security. The first such unit, the 88 (M) Battalion, was formed in 1986 and is headquartered in New Delhi. These battalions play a vital role in managing sensitive situations with empathy, strength, and precision.
Behind the uniforms are stories of courage, sacrifice, and relentless duty. Whether battling terrorists in the Valley, restoring calm in the Northeast, or rebuilding lives in conflict zones, the men and women of the CRPF embody their motto — ‘Service and Loyalty.’
