Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered India’s national statement during the plenary session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin on Monday. Thanking Chinese President Xi Jinping for the warm welcome, he expressed his happiness in participating in the event.

Laying out India’s vision for the SCO, PM Modi said the organisation should rest on three fundamental pillars: Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity. PM emphasized that connectivity not only enhances trade but also builds trust, calling on member nations to respect each other’s sovereignty.

To foster deeper cultural and civilizational ties, the Prime Minister proposed creating a Civilizational Dialogue Forum to boost people-to-people partnerships among SCO member countries.

Addressing global governance, PM Modi urged reforms in the United Nations Security Council, arguing that it is unjust to confine the aspirations of the Global South within outdated structures. He called for multilateral institutions to better reflect contemporary global realities.

Without naming any country, PM Modi referred to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, questioning whether open support for terrorism by some nations can still be tolerated. Reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy, he condemned the use of terrorism as a geopolitical tool, calling it the biggest threat to regional peace and stability.
