The first case of 2025 HMPV in Assam ANCHOR: The first case of 2025 HMPV in Assam was detected in a 10-month-old child admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. The case was identified during routine HMPV screening at ICMR-RMRC in Dibrugarh. Assam Medical College Superintendent Dr Dhruvajyoti Bhuyan told reporters that about 100 children have been diagnosed with HMPV virus since 2014, and in 2025 this is the first case that has been diagnosed in Assam.
He added that this virus is not a new virus, there is no reason to worry, and it is a common virus. The child is from Lakhimpur and is now admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital. He assured that the state government is fully prepared to implement necessary measures as per the recommendations issued by the central government.
