Austria terrorist attack: A major security operation is under way to hunt down terrorists

After France now Austria is witnessing a major threat as heavily armed terrorists attacked six locations simultaneously in the Country. A huge operation is under way to eliminate the terrorists. In Mumbai like attack gunmen opened fire at multiple locations across central Vienna, killing at least three people and wounding several more.

Two gunmen were shot dead by police who said they were hunting for at least one more assailant still at large.

Attacks were carried out by "several suspects armed with rifles", police said on Monday night.

The attacks started at around 8 pm (1900 GMT) when the first gunshots were heard in the city's centrally located first district.

It was unclear how many assailants were involved in the assault

Sirens and helicopters could be heard in the city centre as emergency services responded to the attack

A shooter had "shot wildly with an automatic weapon" before police arrived and opened fire, the witness added.
