IAEA Inspects Syria Sites in Nuclear Probe

– International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi led a team of inspectors to Damascus on Thursday to examine sites linked to Syria’s past nuclear activities, following a breakthrough agreement with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa.

The deal granted inspectors “immediate and unrestricted access” to relevant locations. Grossi described the visit as a “critical and transparent step” toward resolving years of international concern over Syria’s opaque nuclear history.

Footage released by the IAEA showed inspectors conducting reviews at multiple sites. The visit is seen as a pivotal moment in long-stalled dialogue between Syria and the UN nuclear watchdog.

The IAEA has pushed for greater cooperation from Damascus since an alleged undeclared reactor was destroyed in 2007.
