In the US, Super Typhoon Bavi made landfall on the Pacific island of Rota, bringing destructive winds and torrential rain, with authorities warning of catastrophic damage and life-threatening conditions.
Packing winds of nearly 290 kilometres per hour, the category-5 equivalent super typhoon swept across Rota, with authorities receiving reports of major damage from residents as the storm battered the island.
The powerful weather system also lashed other parts of the Northern Mariana Islands and the nearby US territory of Guam with intense winds and heavy rain, affecting a region home to more than two lakh people.
