Trump: U.S. to send more defensive weapons to Ukraine

Expressing concern over the Russia-Ukraine conflict and specifically criticizing Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the United States would send more weapons to Kyiv, Capital of Ukraine, to help it defend against Moscow’s attacks.

President Trump said the U.S. would be providing primarily defensive weapons but did not mention Patriot missiles, which he had referenced on Friday.

Following a call with Trump on Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said they agreed to work on boosting Kyiv’s capability to “defend the sky.” The leaders also discussed joint defense production, purchases, and investments.

Ukraine has been requesting more Patriot missiles and related systems from Washington, considering them vital to protecting its cities amid increasing Russian air strikes.
