New Delhi: Ahead of its crucial meeting next week, the Congress on Sunday said top party leaders will deliberate and give direction on ways to forge opposition unity during the three-day plenary. The party insisted that without this any such attempt (of opposition unity) would fail. The convention will begin on February 24 at Nava Raipur in Chhattisgarh and around 15,000 delegates are expected to participate. Congress general secretary organization KC Venugopal said the party's steering committee will meet on the first day of the session and decide whether elections will be held for the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the top decision-making body of the party. A demand was made regarding this by some people associated with the party organization. He said that the Congress is well aware of its role in bringing together various opposition parties to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power and form an alliance before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In a press conference, Venugopal said, "The Congress has already taken the initiative and is in touch with various political parties. There is a clear initiative from the Congress side to bring the opposition parties together and we will certainly encourage them." Will bring together against BJP in 2024 elections."

He said, "The issue of opposition unity will be put up in the full session of the party, where it will be discussed." He said that the main task is to defeat BJP in 2024. Venugopal said that this session is a reflection of the spirit of the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra and an extension of the Udaipur Chintan Shivir. The plenary session has been given the tagline "Join hands with hands" as it is being held in the midst of the party's nationwide 'Join hands with hands' campaign.

Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said, "We believe that unity of the opposition is necessary. It will be discussed at the convention. He said, "We know our role very well. Congress is the only party that has not made any compromise with the BJP. Any opposition unity without the Congress will fail...Without a strong Congress, a strong opposition unity is impossible. There should be an alliance before the elections, it should happen after, and people will present their views on this in the convention.

Ramesh said, "We welcome the statement of Nitish Kumar ji because he has accepted that the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' has not only affected the Congress but also Indian politics. This is a transformative moment for Indian politics, and he has accepted it. KC Venugopal said on this occasion that this plenary session this time will prove to be a milestone in the direction of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections
