India began their Champions Trophy campaign on a positive note, defeating Bangladesh by six wickets in their opening match in Dubai on Thursday.

Batting first, Bangladesh's Towhid Hridoy slammed his maiden century to guide his team to 228 runs. Hridoy combined with Jaker Ali for a 154-run partnership to rescue Bangladesh from dire straits.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers, claiming a five-wicket haul. With this achievement, Shami also became the fastest Indian to take 200 wickets in ODIs.

Chasing 229, India started well but lost Rohit Sharma in the 10th over after he scored 41. Virat Kohli also got out after scoring 22, but opener Shubman Gill showed his class again, scoring his eighth ODI hundred. Gill's brilliant century, along with K.L. Rahul's steady play, helped the Men in Blue chase down the target with 21 balls to spare.
