Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Arun Singh Dhumal made it clear that the 2024 edition of the league will begin in India from the end of March and the schedule will be announced only after the dates of the general elections are confirmed.
Arun Dhumal said, we will work with the Indian government and agencies to ensure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the announcement of the schedule of general elections and then we will plan accordingly like which state will host which match. Such planning will be made at the time of elections.
Asked if any possible date could be shared for the IPL, he said, "It (IPL) will probably start from the end of March and the general elections are in April, so we will work on it with the help of the government." .
As per the information received, there are ten teams competing for the coveted trophy, with a total of 74 matches expected to be played, possibly in two phases due to India's general elections being held during the same period. Earlier, some reports had claimed that IPL 2024 is likely to be moved out of India due to the Lok Sabha elections.
