Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow, to Launch Composting Unit for Sustainable Waste Management
The Department of Environmental Science at B. B. Ambedkar University is venturing to take a major stride in sustainability with the proposed establishment of a composting unit on campus. The initiative has received encouragement and guidance from the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof Raj Kumar Mittal, ensuring that the project is not only scientifically sound but also institutionally strengthened.
The project, initiated by Ms. Roshni Bajaj, Research Scholar, DES aims to transform the way organic and solid waste is managed within the university.
The composting unit will focus on:
• Treatment of organic waste within the BBAU campus through composting and vermicomposting
• Recycling of non-degradable waste to reduce environmental burden
• Production of value added products like compost and vermicompost for use in horticulture and agriculture
• Skill development and training opportunities for students, opening pathways for startups and sustainable product formulation
This initiative will not only addresses waste management challenges but is likely to position the university as a model for eco-friendly practices, contributing to a cleaner campus and a healthier environment.
Together, with the support of our leadership and faculty, the campus is set to initiate turning waste into wealth and knowledge into action!
