Today marks the third and final day of President Droupadi Murmu’s historic visit to Botswana — the first-ever by an Indian President to the southern African nation.
A symbolic handover of eight cheetahs, formally announced by President Mokgweetsi Masisi Boko on Wednesday, will take place in the presence of President Murmu today. The cheetahs are being donated by Botswana to India under the Cheetah Reintroduction Project, highlighting both nations’ shared commitment to biodiversity conservation and ecological balance.
Expressing deep gratitude, President Murmu said the cheetahs would become part of the growing population at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh.
Later in the day, President Murmu will meet Botswana’s Minister of International Relations, Phenyo Butale, and Vice President Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe. She will then attend a reception for the Indian community before departing from Gaborone Airport, concluding her three-day state visit that began on Tuesday.
