Facility to vote from home will be available in Karnataka assembly elections: Elderly-disabled will get benefit
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajeev Kumar said on Saturday that the option of the vote from home will be given to the elderly people above 80 years and the disabled in the Karnataka assembly elections. The CEC along with both the Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal has arrived in Bengaluru to review the preparations for the upcoming assembly elections.
Rajeev Kumar said that this kind of facility will be given for the first time. The Election Commission team will reach the homes of elderly and differently abled voters with Form-12D to exercise their franchise. Videography of this entire process will be done. This facility is for those people who cannot go to the polling booth to cast their vote. This information will be given to all political parties.
The parties will have to tell why the ticket was given to the candidate.
Political parties will have to tell voters on their portals and social media platforms why they chose candidates with a criminal background and gave tickets to contest elections. The Election Commission has also started a campaign named Know your candidate to make voters aware. So that voters will be able to know about their candidate.
Suvidha app launched for candidates to file nominations
The Suvidha app has been launched for contesting candidates to file nominations and submit affidavits. Candidates can also use the Suvidha portal to seek permission for meetings and rallies.
5.21 crore voters in 224 assembly seats
Rajeev Kumar told that out of 224 assembly seats in Karnataka, 36 seats have been reserved for Scheduled Castes and 15 seats for Scheduled Tribes. There are 5.21 crore voters in the state, out of which 2.59 are women. There are 16,976 such voters whose age is more than 100 years. 4,699 voters are third gender, and 9.17 lakh voters are first-time voters. More than 12.15 lakh voters are 80 years old, and 5.55 voters are physically challenged.
