An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck south of the Fiji Islands on Monday, the United States Geological Survey said. The quake was at a depth of 174 km (108.12 miles), USGS added.

A tsunami is not anticipated at the tropical paradise, as the quake's depth mitigates the risk, according to the US Tsunami Warning System.

The US Tsunami Warning System's website also said that the epicentre was south of the Fiji Islands.

Fiji, located in the South Pacific, is known for its beautiful landscapes and palm-lined beaches. There are over 300 islands which are part of Fiji, with 90% of their territory being made up of water.
