Heatwave grips Europe, France reports deaths

 A severe heatwave continued to grip several parts of Europe, with France reporting seven deaths linked to extreme weather conditions.

France recorded its hottest May day on record as soaring temperatures affected daily life, including tourists visiting Paris.

Italy also witnessed intense heat, with tourists enduring scorching conditions at major landmarks in cities such as Rome, Florence and Palermo.

In the United Kingdom, temperatures crossed 30 degrees Celsius in London. The Meteorological Office said Britain recorded its hottest May day on Monday, with another record likely on Tuesday.

Slovakia’s capital Bratislava also experienced unusually high temperatures, with mercury levels rising nearly eight degrees above the seasonal average for late May.

Authorities across Europe have urged people to take precautions amid continuing extreme weather conditions.
