March 09, New Delhi:

The 12th edition of the India-Kyrgyzstan Joint Special Forces Exercise, KHANJAR-XII, will commence in Kyrgyzstan on 10 March 2025 and run until 23 March 2025. Since its inception in 2011, the exercise has evolved into a key annual event, alternating between India and Kyrgyzstan, reflecting the growing strategic partnership between the two nations. The last edition was held in India in January 2024.

The Indian contingent will consist of troops from the Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), while the Kyrgyzstan contingent will be represented by the Kyrgyz Scorpion Brigade. The exercise aims to facilitate an exchange of expertise and best practices in counter-terrorism operations and special forces tactics in urban and high-altitude mountainous terrain.

The focus of the exercise will be on advancing specialized skills in sniping, complex building intervention, and mountain craft. This training aims to enhance the operational capabilities of both forces, fostering cooperation in combatting terrorism and extremism. The exercise will also feature vibrant cultural exchanges.

The Kyrgyz festival of Nowruz will be celebrated during the event, further strengthening the bond of friendship between the two nations. Beyond the intense training, these cultural interactions reflect the shared values and growing diplomatic ties between India and Kyrgyzstan.

KHANJAR-XII serves as a platform for both countries to reinforce their defense cooperation while addressing the global threat of terrorism. The exercise reaffirms their mutual commitment to ensuring peace, stability, and security in the region.
