UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is poised to sign a new agreement with the European Union in an effort to reset relations after Brexit.
Downing Street issued a statement confirming that Starmer will secure another deal next week, one that is expected to be in the national interest of the UK.
Starmer is scheduled to meet with EU leaders on Monday for the first post-Brexit EU-UK summit. The talks aim to establish steps toward strengthening the relationship between the UK and the 27-member bloc, which Britain left five years ago following a contentious and narrow referendum.
During the summit, Starmer will be joined by EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen, Antonio Costa, and top EU diplomat Kaja Kallas for discussions in London.
In an interview with an English newspaper on Saturday, the UK Prime Minister described the deal as a "really significant moment."
While Starmer has ruled out rejoining the customs union and single market, he suggested that the UK is open to regulatory alignment with the EU, particularly on food and agricultural products.
