"Sometimes Politics...": S Jaishankar On BBC Documentary On PM Modi

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Referring to the controversial BBC documentary on PM Narendra Modi, Jaishankar said that "real politics" is being conducted "clearly with the media" by those who do not have the "courage to enter the political arena". In an interview given to the news agency ANI, the furor over this issue was termed as politics being done for a different purpose. He said, "Sometimes India's politics does not come from its borders but it comes from outside the country. He added, "We're not just debating a documentary or a speech someone gave in a European city or a newspaper editorial...we're really talking about 'real politics' that is clearly Basically being run through the media. This is politics in another way. ,

The Foreign Minister also questioned the timing of this documentary, which came about a year before the year 2024. He said, "Do you think this timing is coincidental? Let me tell you one thing - I don't know if the election season has started in India, Delhi, or not but it has definitely started in London, New York. Last month, the BBC released a documentary film titled 'India: The Modi Question', showing the 2002 Gujarat riots and questioning the PM's role in them. Narendra Modi was given a clean chit by the committee. On the question of some Western media's bias about PM Modi in India, Jaishankar said, "Do you doubt it? Look Who's the Cheerleaders? I believe this has been going on for a decade."

Significantly, the Central Government had ordered to block tweets sharing the BBC documentary criticizing PM Narendra Modi. The tweets through which the YouTube link of the BBC documentary was shared were also blocked. The Ministry of External Affairs described this documentary as propaganda reflecting the colonial mindset.
