46 Chinese military aircraft entered Taiwan's maritime border, Dragon also warned America
Taiwan's Defense Ministry said on Saturday that 46 Chinese military aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait. China did this during the 'Dand' exercise around the island. China held a second day of 'punishment' exercises in response to the statement by Taiwan's new President Lai Ching-te. At the same time, some residents of the democratically ruled island said they would continue to live their lives as normal despite pressure from Beijing.
There is no fear of China among ordinary citizens.
China conducted simulated missile attacks in the eastern waters of Taiwan and sent fighter planes with live missiles. Beijing used the drill to test its ability to exercise power control and capture key areas of Taiwan, but life continues as normal on the island of 23 million people.
Taiwanese have no visible signs of concern, having grown used to living with Chinese threats for decades. A Taiwanese citizen said that China's military exercises do not really affect our daily lives. We still have to work to earn money.
China warned the US on Friday that efforts towards Taiwan independence are a "dead end" and will only backfire, after an unnamed US official urged Beijing to exercise restraint over the cross-Strait situation. For those who are involved in 'Taiwan independence', there will be a dead end and support for Taiwan independence will only have the opposite effect.
