Two children were killed and another injured in an explosion in Balkh province in northern Afghanistan.
Provincial police said the incident occurred in the province's Balkh district in the afternoon. The children had found a device and were playing with it when there was an explosion.
The device, left over from previous wars, exploded, killing two children on the spot and injuring another.
War-ravaged Afghanistan is reportedly one of the most landmine-affected countries in the world. Dozens of people die and become disabled here every month. Most of those who died are children.
