Kalaburagi (Karnataka): Impressed by the "vibrant and colorful" Lambani (Banjara) nomadic tribes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that their dress, culture, traditions, and cuisine are India's strengths and his government is committed to preserving them all. In an effort to establish an emotional connection with the economically and socially backward Lambani community spread across various parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, Modi has distributed land ownership rights to over 52,000 members. Inaugurating the 'Hakku Patra' distribution campaign, the donor said that this community is culturally rich. Modi told an enthusiastic crowd at Malkhed in this district of Karnataka on Thursday, "The double engine government (BJP government at the Center and Karnataka) considers the traditions, culture, cuisine, and dress of every community in India as its strength. We are in favor of protecting this strength. He was addressing the Lambani community, which is known for its distinctive dress and language. The identity of the women of this community is also unique. She wears a brightly colored ghagra (lehenga) embroidered with mirrorwork. She wears cream-colored bangles from wrist to shoulder and adorns herself with silver ornaments from hair to toe.

The Prime Minister said, "Suhali, Lambani, Lambada, Lambana or Baazigar… whatever you call them, they are culturally rich and vibrant. You are the pride of the country and the strength of the country." He said, "You have a history of thousands of years and you have contributed to the development of the country. Together we have to preserve this heritage and take it forward. For the development of all, we have to take everyone along. Recalling his experience with the Banjara community, the Prime Minister said that in Gujarat, where he comes from, the community often faces acute water shortages, much like the neighboring state of Rajasthan. He said that although there is a system to overcome the scarcity of water everywhere, which is hundreds of years old

He said, "Even today there are some facilities built by the 'Lakha Banjara' community to overcome water scarcity in the villages of Rajasthan and Gujarat. I am fortunate that I am getting an opportunity to serve the community belonging to Lakha Banjara, who has served the society at large.'' During the 'Hakku Patra' distribution ceremony, a woman dressed in her traditional Lambani attire walked past the Prime Minister. He blessed her by placing his hand on her head and he also accepted her blessings by calling her "mother" in his speech. For the first time, over 52,000 Lambani families in five districts of northern Karnataka will get ownership rights on the land they have been living in for decades. Modi hit out at the Congress, saying that despite ruling the country for the maximum number of years, it did nothing for the welfare of the community and used them as a vote bank.
