A Workshop for Protection of Women from Sexual Harassment at Street in collaboration of Breakthrough organization at Faculty Law, University of Lucknow. It was training session on STANDUP against street harassment. Prof C.P Singh Head and Dean, Faculty of Law University of Lucknow, has welcomed all the participants. He said that awareness among common people that sexual harassment is an offence is very mush required. He emphasize that such information's must be mentioned in the syllabus of the schools. He also said that 'character building' is essential. Mrs Shubham Singh Chauhan, from the Break through trained the participants. He suggests five D's, formula for the protection from Sexual Harrassment at Street.
These are Distraction i.e an attempt to distract the intention of the offender, Delegation i.e make a request to the authorities available there or others who are more competent to provide help, Direct, i.e intervene physically if possible to tell the offender that he is committing an offence, Documentation, take the picture of the offender, or vehicle of offender, try to record the scene etc, and Dial i.e. 1090, 101 and other helplines. But it should be always keep in mind that pictures and recording are not to post on social media but it should be used for the purpose to follow offender, to deter him etc.
It must give to the investigation agencies. The message of the workshop was to be sensitive towards the others especially towards women. The best part of the Workshop was that participants has actively participated and share their experience. Some of the remarkable suggestions were given by the participants. One participant share that while intervening in the matter when a sooty boys were following the girls students in auto and harassing them and scolding on auto driver to stop, he has taken the photo of boys and Sooty number and intimate police. But when he told the girls 'why not you people call to your family members'?, They replied, Family members would scold them and prohibit them to send school.
It was suggested that family members must stand up with the girls and women who are victim of the sexual harassment. Five years LL.B student Miss Yameena suggested that presence of more and more girls and women at every sphere of public life would make girls and woman comfortable and offenders uncomfortable for such activities. Till girls and woman are prohibited to come out because of fear of harassment, such activities are difficult to control. Dr Richa Saxena has coordinated the Programme and Shishir Yadav worked as Student Convener.
