Lucknow University organized an 'E-Talk' on the topic "Simran Shaikh- A Success Story"
Monthly research seminar series, an initiative for P.G. students of Psyche Hub, Department of Psychology, Lucknow University organized an 'E-Talk' on the topic "Simran Shaikh- A Success Story". The research session was organized by Dr. Archana Shukla, Co-ordinator of Department of Psychology. Prof. Madhurima Pradhan gave the welcome address for the session. The inauguration was conducted by Dr. Manini Srivastava, Assistant Professor of Psychology Department.
Simran Sheikh, Director, John Hopkins University was the keynote speaker in this session. She was the co-founding member of the Dai Welfare Society, one of the first transgender community-based organization in the city. She was also a part of the Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust, after which she found her current job with the India HIV/AIDS Alliance. She discussed on the importance of accepting one's responsibility for making a society an co-existence society for all irrespective of their caste, creed, colour, gender or sexual-orientation.
The session included a presentation by Simran in which she shared her experiences and thoughts with the participants. The presentation included the concept of language inclusiveness, avoidance of gendering and binary language and how to make the society a better place for all. On this occasion, about 60 students including other faculty members of the department including Dr. Nagma Javed and Dr. Megha Singh were present on the Zoom app. The presentation was followed by an interactive session with the participants in which they shared their views. The session ended with a vote of thanks given by Assistant Professor of Psychology, Dr. Megha Singh.
