Is Congress eyeing BSP? After Mayawati's announcement Rahul Gandhi met Kanshi Ram's sister
A day after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati announced no alliance with any party in the upcoming elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday visited BSP founder Kanshi Ram during the Punjab leg of his 'Bharat Jodo Yatra'. Met sister Swaran Kaur. Lakhbir Singh of the Kanshi Ram Foundation accompanied him.
No one from BSP participated in the yatra
This meeting is considered important because Mayawati and Kanshi Ram's families do not have good relations, so the Congress may be eyeing Kanshi Ram's legacy. The Congress had invited Mayawati to join the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', but no one from the BSP turned up. Mayawati announced on Sunday that her party would not forge an alliance with any party in the assembly elections to be held in 2023 and again in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024.
Rahul's journey started again from Tanda
At the same time, Congress 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' resumed from Tanda in Punjab on Tuesday morning under the leadership of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi in the bitter cold. The Punjab leg of Congress's march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir began on Wednesday from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib. Senior party leaders including Congress Punjab unit chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding, Harish Chowdhary, and Rajkumar Chabbewal were seen accompanying Gandhi.
Significantly, the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', which began on September 7 from Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, will conclude in Srinagar on January 30, where Rahul Gandhi will unfurl the tricolor in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. This padayatra has so far passed through Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana.
