As unrest continues in Iran, a violent crackdown on nationwide protests has killed over 646 people, while Iranian authorities sought to regain control through mass rallies. The government’s call for rallies in support of the Islamic Republic drew thousands on Monday.

Iran’s Foreign Minister stated that security forces now have “full control” of the country after two weeks of violent unrest. Tehran also said on Monday that it was maintaining communication channels with Washington as President Trump considered how to respond to the deadly crackdown.

At a press conference in Tehran, Araghchi accused the U.S. and Israel of directly fueling the recent unrest in Iran. He claimed the government has evidence that recent disturbances—including attacks on police stations and the burning of public facilities—were carried out by “terrorists” backed by the U.S. and Israel.

Meanwhile, Trump said on Sunday that the U.S. may meet Iranian officials and that he has been in contact with Iran’s opposition, while continuing to pressure its leaders. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Monday, “While airstrikes were one of many alternatives open to Trump, diplomacy is always the first option for the president.”
